The user will need to modify this file manually after installing the KMP to allow the Intel RAID driver to load. These drivers do not include disk dump support that is sometimes added by certain distro's. This appears to be replaced by kdump. Here is help for using kdump: http://lse.sourceforge.net/kdump/ Kdump doesnt work for flashless controllers. Fusion.mptctl will not be provided on RHEL5 Gold DUDs, nor KMP RPMS. This is the service script that autoloads the mptctl driver. You will find this only on SLES10 DUDS,RHEL5 Update 1 DUDS and generic RPMS(found in rpm-1 folder). Due to increase in size of KMOD based DUD, the RHEL5 U1 DUD can be used only with thumb drives and Floppy based DUD is not supported from RHEL5 U1 onwards. ==================== Contents in the package ==================== The following files are included in this package: Name mptlinux-4.20.00.02-2-rhel5.i686.rpm mptlinux-4.20.00.02-2-rhel5.x86_64.rpm mptlinux-4.20.00.02-2-sles10.i586.rpm mptlinux-4.20.00.02-2-sles10.x86_64.rpm mptlinux-4.20.00.02-2-sles11.i586.rpm mptlinux-4.20.00.02-2-sles11.x86_64.rpm The source files of this driver are also included in the package, which allows for compilation on many Linux distributions not pre-compiled and provided otherwise. However, this does not imply any level of support for the partial source files, the build process, nor for other Linux distributions. These files are zipped in mptlinux-4.18.00.00-src.tar.gz Note: DUD format driver files are not provided in this package. Please refer to 3.1 for how to install OS. ================ Driver Installation Instructions ================ This updated driver can be applied using the normal OS installation options. 1 The purpose of this document is to provide clear instructions on how to install OS on drives attached to the Intel(R) IT/IR RAID controller or device. 2 Prepare Installation disk(s) 2.1 Driver files are available on the CD that shipped with the product or can be downloaded from http://support.intel.com. 2.2 Create install disk(s) User requires a system with either Microsoft Windows or a Linux based Operating System and fresh floppy diskette(s) to prepare the install disk(s). The required Installation Diskettes can be created on any system. Extract the disk image to a floppy disk using rawrite or another image extraction utility. 3 Installation methods There are different types of installation possible with the installation package provided. Those are explained in different sections. 3.1 OS installation on RAID This mode of installation is selected when user needs to install the Operating system on a fresh RAID configuration. For this kind of installation the driver update disc is used at the starting of the installation and the installer will update the system with driver images for the required kernels. Follow the procedure given below to install Intel(R) IT/IR RAID Stack at the time of Installation. ----------------- 3.1.1 Installing RHEL5 on RAID ----------------- It's not suggested to load RHEL5 driver during OS installation. Please refer to section 3.2 for updating RHEL RAID driver on already installed OS. ----------------- 3.1.2 Installing SLES10/11 on RAID ----------------- It's not suggested to load SLES10/11 driver during OS installation. Please refer to section 3.2 for updating RAID driver on already installed OS. ----------------- 3.2 Updating RHEL or SLES RAID driver on already installed system ----------------- This method is used to update IT/IR RAID driver in a system, which is already installed with an older (or OS embedded) driver version. Here this procedure explains the manual process of updating the driver. Follow the steps given to update driver. 1) Create RAID array on RAID Controller using Intel(R) IT/IR RAID Console Utility. 2) Boot the OS from primary controller/Disk. 3) Copy mptlinux rpm files to a temporary directory in the OS. 4) Query which version of the MPT driver is installed by running the command #rpm -qa | grep mptlinux 5) (If result of step#4 is null, then skip this step.)Remove the bundled version of the MPT driver by running the command #rpm -e mptlinux-- 6) Install the new version of the MPT driver by running the command #rpm -ivh mptlinux---..rpm 7) Run command line #lsmod to check if mptsas has been loaded successfully. 8) Run command line #modinfo mptsas to make sure that the mptsas driver version has been updated 9) Completed. ================ Known Bugs ================ N/A ================ Fixes/Updates ================ Version 4.20.00.02-2 RHEL 5.4 support SLES 10SP3 support Version 4.18 RHEL 5.3 support SLES 11 support Version 4.16 Initial Release for SASWT4I, SASUC8I *Other names and brands may be claimed as the property of others.
