There are two files on the BBS you will need to install NextSTEP on NEC Image 466 and Image 466es systems. You will need to download: 1.) necscsi.taz (Adaptec 6260/6360 scsi driver) 2.) necw32i.taz (Tseng ET4000W32i video driver) They must first be copied to a NEC Image 466 PC running NS 3.2, then renamed, uncompressed, and finally added with the Configure.app. After you have received these files, copy them to a floppy diskette or your NS 3.2 root directory and follow these steps for installation. Login as ROOT Click DISK, on the Workspace menu, and click on Check for Disks. Rename necscsi.taz to AIC6X60.config.compressed, then double click on the icon and it will decompress to AIC6X60.config. This file is for the NEC Image 486es PC on board Adaptec 6360 SCSI controller. Double click on it and it will install, and automatically launch /NextAdmin/Configure.app Click on the SCSI ICON, and choose ADD. Select Adaptec AIC6X60 SCSI Driver V3.2.1B, SAVE and then DONE. * NOTE TO SCSI HARD DISK ONLY USERS IF YOUR SYSTEM ONLY HAS A SCSI HARD DISC, YOU MUST UNCOMPRESS THE ADAPTEC DRIVER ON A PC ALREADY RUNNING NS AND COPY IT TO A FLOPPY formatted as NeXT file system to install NS from a CD-ROM attached to the Adaptec 6x60 on-board SCSI controller. If you don't have access to a NeXT machine call NEC for a diskette with the drivers already in NS format (508) 635-6461. Put the file AIC6X60.config into a sub directory entitled /usr/Devices Now you can install on NS 3.2. When the NeXTSTEP 3.2 install floppy asks you for other device driver floppy, insert this one. The NEC IMAGE 466 VIDEO DRIVER must be installed from the root. Rename necw32i.taz to ET4000W32i.config.compressed, then double click on the icon and it will decompress ET4000W32i.config. This file is for the NEC Image 466es PC on board Tseng ET4000W32i video controller. (It will also work on the NEC Image 466 up to 800x600x16bit color and up to 1024x768x8bit gray scale). Double click on ET4000W32i.config and it will automatically launch /NextAdmin/Configure.app. Click on Display, and remove the Default VGA Video driver, click on ADD, click on ET4000W32i.config, and NS will install the driver, then select the resolution you prefer.
